What is the difference between weeks and months?

Parents are often confused. Important to remember:

  • 1 month ≠ 4 weeks. A calendar month has 30-31 days, and 4 weeks have only 28 days. Over the course of a year, this error accumulates almost every month!
  • Growth leaps (Wonder Weeks) are counted strictly according to weeks from the PDA (date of birth), and not from the actual birth.

❓ How to calculate age if the month is not yet ended?
In medicine, only a full month is counted. If the child is 5 months and 29 days old, “5 months” is written on the chart, not 6. Rounding up may lead to incorrect medication prescriptions.
❓ Until what age are months counted?
Usually up to 3 years (36 months). After this period, the pace of physical development slows down and switches to counting in years and halves (3.5, 4.5 years).
❓ Why is it important to know the weeks?
Weeks are used to track “growth spurts” (neurodevelopmental crises). The age of premature babies (adjusted age) is also calculated in weeks.
