Cat age in human years
Accurate translation of the pet’s age using the veterinary formula
Cat to human age
🐱 How old is your cat really?
Many people think that one year of a cat’s life is equal to seven human years (1 to 7). This is a myth. In fact, cats mature non-linearly: in the first year they go from a baby to a teenager, and then their aging slows down.
- 1st year of life ≈ 15 human years (adolescent).
- 2nd year of life ≈ +9 years (total 24 years - young adult).
- Each next year ≈ +4 human years.
Why know the “human” age of a pet?
It's not just fun. Understanding biological age helps the owner:
- 🥗 Choose food: Kittens (up to 1 year) need food for growth, and “seniors” (over 7 years old, i.e. 44+ in our opinion) need a diet to protect their kidneys and joints.
- 🏥 Schedule visits to the doctor: After 7–8 years, cats are recommended to have a check-up not once a year, but every six months, since “human” years fly by faster.
- 🧠 Understand behavior: If a 10-year-old cat (56 years old) begins to play less, this is normal - he is no longer a student, but a respectable gentleman.
