🐕 How old is your dog really?
The old rule “one dog year for seven human years” is a myth. Modern veterinary medicine has proven that the age of a pet depends on its size and breed. Our calculator uses the latest scientific formula that takes into account the weight of the animal.
Small dogs (up to 10 kg) mature quickly, but age slowly - they often live up to 15-18 years. Large breeds (Alabai, Great Danes) mature slowly, but biological old age begins in them by the age of 7–8 years.
Why know the “human” age of a pet?
This is not just curiosity. Understanding biological age helps to properly care for your dog:
- Up to 2 years (Adolescent):A period of active learning and character formation.

🔹 Why doesn’t the “1 to 7” formula work?
Because the development of a dog is non-linear. The first year of a dog's life is approximately 15 human years (puberty). The second year adds about 9 more years. And then every year is considered about 4-5 human, depending on weight.
🔹 Which dog lived the longest?
The official record belongs to an Australian cattle dog named Bluey, who lived for 29 years and 5 months. By human standards, this is more than 200 years!
🔹 When is a dog considered old?
For giant breeds, old age begins at 6–7 years. For medium and small children - closer to 10 years. From this age, it is recommended to do a health check (blood tests, ultrasound) once every six months.
