Moving volume
Furniture volume calculator: planning a move without extra costs
How not to make a mistake when choosing a car?
When planning apartment move, it is extremely important to make a list of all large-sized furniture. Sofas, wardrobes, refrigerators and even washing machines have their own dimensions, which together give the same volume in cubic meters (m3). Our calculator allows you to sum up the volume of all items in a matter of seconds. You just need to indicate the number of standard pieces of furniture, and the system itself will give you the recommended tonnage of the car.
📏 Why is volume important, not weight?
In most cases, household items don't weigh much. Clothes, dishes and even disassembled furniture rarely exceed 1.5–2 tons. However, they take up a lot of space. It is the volume (m3) that dictates the choice between a Gazelle and a heavy truck.
📦 How to count boxes?
Don't forget about personal items! On average, 10–12 standard boxes occupy about 1 cubic meter. If you have 50 boxes, that's already 5 cubes that need to be added to the furniture.
Comparison of transport capacity
To make it easier for you to navigate the calculator results, we have prepared a comparative table of popular trucks:
| Vehicle type | Body volume (m3) | What type of move is it suitable for? |
|---|---|---|
| Gazelle (standard) | 9 - 11 | Studio or 1-room apartment (minimum things) |
| Gazelle (high/long) | 16 - 18 | Full 1-room apartment with appliances |
| Five-ton (Valdai/ZiL) | 30 - 40 | 2 or 3 room apartment |
| Wagon (euro) | 82 - 90 | Moving a large cottage or office |
How to calculate the amount of packaging materials?
After the calculator has given you the coveted volume figure, you can plan the purchase of “consumables”. The more cubes, the more protection you will need:
- Stretch film: 1 roll for every 5-7 m3 of things. It protects against dust and minor scratches.
- Bubble film:Minimum 10 meters to protect mirrors, TV panels and glass facades.
- Scotch tape: Minimum 3-4 rolls. It goes away faster than it seems.
- Cardboard sheets:Indispensable for laying between the walls of cabinets in the body.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Yes, this saves up to 40% of the volume in the car. A disassembled wardrobe turns into a stack of flat panels, which allows you to use the Gazelle instead of an expensive five-ton truck.
Use the formula: Length x Width x Height based on the most prominent points. Our calculator already contains average sizes for most household items, making it easier.
