🏥 How to calculate payment for sick leave?
Many employees are surprised when they receive salary after illness: the amount is often less than expected. Our calculator will help you find out in advance the exact amount of temporary disability benefits in order to plan your budget.
⚡ The main rule of calculation:
Sick leave is paid not just “according to the average salary”, but depending on your insurance record and income for the previous two years.
How does length of service affect the amount of payment?
This is the most important factor. The longer you work officially (in total for your entire life, and not just in the last place), the more you will receive:
- 🔴 Up to 5 years of experience: you will receive only 60% of the average salary.
- 🟡 Experience from 5 to 8 years: paid 80% of average earnings.
- 🟢 8 years of experience or more: you will receive 100% of average earnings (but not higher than the established limit).
Step-by-step instructions
- Income for 2 years: Add up all your “dirty” income (before tax) for the two previous calendar years. If you count sick leave in 2025, take income for 2023 and 2024.
- Sickness days: Indicate the number of calendar days indicated on the certificate of incapacity for work (including weekends).
- Experience: Select your category experience in the drop-down list.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
🔹 Are days off paid during illness?
Yes. Temporary disability benefits are accrued for calendar days, that is, weekends and holidays that fall during the period of illness are also paid.
🔹 Who pays the money: the employer or the state?
For a common illness (not a work-related injury):
— The first 3 days are paid by the employer from his own funds.
— The remaining days are paid by the Social Fund of Russia (SFR) directly to your card.
🔹 Is personal income tax withheld from sick leave?
Yes, sick leave is the income of an individual, so 13% tax is withheld from it. Our calculator shows the amount “in hand” after tax has been deducted. More information about this in the section taxes and deductions.
🔹 What if I have a small salary or no experience?
If your income for 2 years was below the minimum (or there was none), the calculation will be based on the minimum wage (Minimum Wage). In any case, you will receive a payment, but it will be minimal.
