🎨 Calculation of wallpaper with pattern selection (rapport)
The main mistake when buying wallpaper with a pattern is ignoring the “rapport” (pattern step). If you do not take into account the offset, the pattern on the wall will not match, and you will have to buy new rolls (which may no longer be in the store).
How to use the tool:
- Measure the room:Length, width and height of ceilings.
- Look at the label:Look for an icon with arrows and numbers (for example, “64/32” or “64/0”). This is rapport and displacement. Enter this data into the calculator.
- Take into account windows and doors: You can subtract their area, but professionals advise leaving it “in reserve” in case of mistakes when trimming.
Tips for a perfect renovation
📏 If the wallpaper is without a pattern
For plain coverings or fine chips where joining is not needed, use a standard wallpaper calculator. He will calculate the footage without extra reserves for shifting.
📦 Check the lot (Lot)
Even if the calculation is correct, always check the lot number on all rolls. Different batches may differ in shade, which will be noticeable on the wall.
🖌️ Alternative to wallpaper
If complex pattern selection seems too costly, consider painting the walls. You can calculate the material consumption using our paint calculator.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
🔹 What is rapport and where to find it?
Rapport is the distance through which the pattern on the wallpaper is repeated. It is indicated on the roll label as a number (for example, 64 cm). The greater the repeat, the more scraps will remain.
🔹 Why do you need a 10% margin?
Even with an accurate calculation, a defect in the sticker, damage to the canvas, or an error in the cut is possible. A supply of 1 roll saves you from having to look for the same batch in stores a month later.
🔹 Do you need to subtract windows and doors?
Technically it is possible to save money. But in practice, pieces cut from window openings can rarely be used in other places due to the mismatch of the pattern. We recommend not subtracting openings when calculating wallpaper with large patterns.
