Cat and dog food calculator

🐾 How to correctly calculate the daily feed intake?

Overfeeding leads to obesity and joint problems, and underfeeding leads to a lack of energy and vitamins. Our calculator uses international veterinary formulas (RER and DER) to calculate your exact daily calorie needs and then converts them into grams for your specific feed.

🚀 How to use the calculator:

  1. Select the type of pet (dog or cat).
  2. Indicate the exact weight of the animal in kilograms (you can use fractions, for example, 4.5).
  3. Select your activity level (puppies and active dogs need more energy, neutered cats need less).
  4. Enter the calorie content of your food (indicated on the package).

Where can I find the calorie content of food?

The energy value (calorie content) is always indicated on the back of the pack of food, in the “Guaranteed Analysis” or “Composition” section. It is usually written in the format: “Energy value: 380 kcal / 100 g”or “3800 kcal / kg”(in this case, divide the number by 10 to get the value per 100 g).

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

🔹 Is the calculator suitable for wet food?

Yes! The calculator does not care whether it is dry food, wet food (pouches) or natural food. The main thing is to correctly indicate the calorie content per 100 grams of product. Please note that wet food is much lower in calories (usually 80-120 kcal/100g), so the final portion in grams will be larger.

🔹 Must the issued rate be given at a time?

No, the calculator shows the daily rate. This figure must be divided by the number of feedings per day. Adult dogs are usually fed 2 times a day, puppies - 3-5 times. Cats should often have constant access to food (unless they are prone to overeating) or 2-3 feedings.

🔹 A different norm is written on the pack, who to believe?

Tables on food packages give very average values (indicate ranges, for example, “from 100 to 150 g”). Our algorithm takes into account individual status: pregnancy, weight loss diet or age. We recommend using our calculation as a starting point and monitoring your pet's weight.
