🌱 How does the lunar sowing calendar work?
Many years of experience of agronomists and gardeners shows that the gravitational influence of the Moon affects the movement of juices in plants. Our interactive calendar automatically calculates the lunar phases and suggests which jobs will bring the maximum harvest and which ones are best avoided.
The influence of moon phases on plants
In order to properly plan sowing work, it is important to understand the basic principles of the lunar cycle:
🌒 Waxing Moon
Plant juices rush upward, from the roots to the stems and leaves. This is the ideal time for planting crops that produce above-ground harvest: tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs, as well as fruit trees and flowers.
🌘 Waning Moon
Energy is directed downward to the root system. During this period, root crops are traditionally planted - potatoes, carrots, beets, radishes, onions and garlic. This is also a great time for weeding and adding organic matter.
⚠️ Important rule: On the days of the New Moon and Full Moon (as well as the day before and after them), plants are extremely vulnerable. These days are marked in red on the calendar—any sowing or transplanting is strictly prohibited.
Frequently asked questions by gardeners (FAQ)
❓ When is the best time to add fertilizers?
Mineral fertilizers are most effective when applied during the waxing moon (when the plant is actively forming green mass). Organic fertilizers (compost, humus) are better absorbed by the root system during the waning moon.
❓ Is it possible to water the beds on unfavorable days?
Yes, watering is basic care that plants need regardless of the lunar cycle. However, on new and full moon days, try to avoid excessive watering of the root system.
❓ Does the calendar take into account climate zones?
The phases of the moon are the same for the entire hemisphere, so the calculation of favorable and unfavorable days is absolutely accurate. However, the “Seasonal work” block is advisory in nature - always make allowances for the actual weather outside the window before planting seedlings in open ground.
